Deep Tissue Massage
As the name suggests, deep tissue massage works on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue in an effort to release chronic patterns of tension.
Deep tissue massage usually focuses on a particular problem area such as:
- Chronic pain
- Limited mobility
- Recovery from injuries
- Repetitive strain injury
- Postural problems
- Muscle tension or spasm
The therapist will always check in with you on how the pressure is feeling. Deep Tissue Massage is about working with the deeper layers of muscle tissue and fascia. There is often a misconception that deep tissue massage is about applying lots of deep hard pressure. It is important to tell the massage therapist when things hurt, and if any soreness or pain you experience is outside of your comfort range. It is possible that you might feel some soreness the day after a deep tissue massage, but this should feel better in a day or so.
